I have fallen victim to the coffee table book sensation. As apartment tours and aesthetic photo dumps rise to popularity, it is not uncommon to see a table in someone's house decorated with a colorful, thick, hardback book. More often than not, that's the book's entire purpose- to sit there. So why do we like the look of them so much?
Seraphina Seow explores this concept in her article titled "Why Coffee Table Books Are a Thing, According to Psychologists" in Architectural Digest where she takes a scientific approach to the phenomenon. She notes self-expression, conversation and emotional connection as some of the possible reasons.
