I'm sure we have all been in the situation where we are watching a movie and then suddenly go to pick up our phones just for that extra ounce of entertainment. With the emergence of 6-second videos, instant gratification through social media and even online shopping, it has become harder than ever to pay attention.


Johann Hari's "Stolen Focus" and Jacob Ward's"The Loop" both depict how technology may to blame for our ever-shortening attention span.


The author of the article, Cathy O'Neil, also provides her insight and critiques on both of the novels along with supplemental excerpts or examples.
